OpenAI launched ChatGPT Go on January 16, a $8-per-month subscription rolled out globally in 170 countries, offering expanded messaging limits, file uploads, image generation and latest-model access compared to free users. The company simultaneously began testing labeled sponsored ads in free and Go tiers—personalized by default with opt-out, user data private from advertisers, no ads for under-18s or sensitive topics—to offset operating losses, while Pro, Business and Enterprise plans stay ad-free.
Chai Discovery, AI drug startup co-founded by ex-OpenAI researcher Josh Meier while using OpenAI's San Francisco offices—with OpenAI as early seed investor—announced on January 8 a partnership with Eli Lilly to apply its Chai-2 algorithm to antibody and biologics design. The deal follows Chai's $130 million Series B in December 2025, valuing it at $1.3 billion.
